ETCMC Node common questions

This post will answer some common questions regarding the ETCMC ethereum classic node.
The following info is summarized by me after trying out the ETCMC node and reading up on ETCMC’s material. I do not work for ETCMC. The info in this post may become irrelevant due to changes/updates. Or I am simply wrong in my info gathering.

What is ETCMC?

Ethereum Classic Mining Community (ETCMC) is a community-driven project self-sustaining ecosystem that aims to grow the decentralized Ethereum Classic (ETC) ecosystem. ETCMC intend to launch their own ETC mining pool and mining farm. They have an autonomous organisation called the “ETCMC DAO” that involves a lot of parameters that ends up yielding members earnings and help fund new projects within the Ethereum Classic ecosystem. Here is the ETCMC whitepaper.

What does the ETCMC crypto node do?

The ETCMC ETC node is a computer that helps verify and secure the Ethereum Classic blockchain. These nodes are essential for the ETC blockchain to work. The more nodes that help verify mined blocks and transactions the faster, more secure and decentralized does the ETC blockchain become.

How many ETCMC nodes can I have and does it work anywhere in the world?

There is no limit to how many ETCMC nodes a person can have. There is no limit to how many there can be on the same ip-address. I can therefore have 10 nodes if I want and there is no location limits or restrictions to how many nodes can be within the same area. The node works anywhere in the world as long as you got an internet connection. The device uses very little data so I would be able to easily run 10 at home without it using up all my data.

What is the difference between the “ETCMC plug and play ETC node” and the “ETCMC node full package”?

The ETCMC plug & play node is just the node itself. It comes with a power cable and HDMI cable. The node is a mini-computer that you connect to a monitor (a screen), a keyboard and a mouse. You need that to login into the computer and start the ETCMC program. The ETCMC full package node is the node but it comes with a monitor and a keyboard with an inbuilt mouse, see picture below. So when ordering the full package node you do not need to connect the node to additional stuff, it is all in one package.

Do I need a licence to run the software with the bought node?

No. If you bought the ETCMC plug and play ETC node or the ETCMC full package node the software is already pre-installed on the node itself. Then you do not need any additional software or licences to be able to run the node.

Does the node always need to be connected to a monitor, keyboard and mouse?

No. You need to have it connected to start the node. But once the node is started the monitor, keyboard, mouse can be disconnected from the node and the node “computer” will keep on running.

What is the node earning?

The node earns the crypto token ETCPOW which is a crypto token on the Ethereum classic network. The node earns ETCPOW for simply being online and verifying the ETC blockchain. The node earns around 240 ETCPOW per month. So the nodes earnings in dollar value is directly dependent on the price of ETCPOW. To see the earnings review with the node you can see this post here. You can see the current price of ETCPOW here.

What wallet do I use for the node rewards and how to I set it up?

Any wallet that runs on the ethereum classic network works. Most users use a web-browser wallet such as Metamask. You can see a guide on how to setup a metamask wallet and add the ethereum classic network for your node here. After you have setup your node and launched the program “ETCMC launcher” you can register your node. When registering your node you enter in the wallet address to where your claimed rewards will be sent to.

What is the utility of the ETCPOW token?

The ETCPOW tokens utility is mainly to reward node operators and to be an incentive to miners mining in the upcoming ETCMC ETC mining pool. Currently, the ETCPOW token can be used to buy the ETCMC software licence that makes anyone able to turn their own computer into “a node” that can verify the ethereum classic blockchain and earn rewards in ETCPOW. A DIY node so to say. When a software is bought 50% of the ETCPOW is burnt and forever gone. ETCPOW can also be swapped towards other crypto tokens on ETCMC’s own decentralized exchange. More utility is said to come for the ETCPOW token. See more info on ETCPOW here by the ETCMC project themselves.

What is the ETCPOW token contract address?

ETCPOW contract address: 0x6c3B413C461c42a88160Ed1B1B31d6f7b02a1C83

Where do I sell the ETCPOW token?

The ETCPOW token can be sold on the decentralized exchange: etc-mc.com
On etc-mc users are also able to farm the ETCPOW token by proving liquidity. You can add liquidity by adding ETCPOW and ETC to a pool. However anyone proving liquidity should read up on what it means and what impermanent loss is before they provide liquidity in to the farm.

What is the etcmc nodes electric cost?

The node only uses 9 watt. That equals to a electric cost of less than one dollar per month. So this device is for sure a low powered device.

What is the ETCMC software licence?

The software licence ETCMC offer can be used to make “your own node”. So if you have a computer you can download the software to your own computer and run the software which allows you to earn ETCPOW tokens as well. Only one software licence can be used per device. If you use the software licence on multiple devices you will get banned and will not be able to use the licence.

What are the minimum system requirements for the software/DIY node?

To run the ETCMC software launcher on your own computer you need the following minimum system requirements for it to work.

Windows 10/11

4 core 4 thread CPU

256GB SSD To mine ETCPOW

1TB SSD To sync a full ETC node

Minimum memory 8GB optimal 16GB Ram

What mini PC on Amazon for ETCMC digital licence?

Instead of buying the ETCMC node you can also setup your own computer or mini PC as a ETC node. This home made node will function and earn the same amount as the plug and play node. Here can see which mini-computers I buy on amazon to setup the DIY ETCMC nodes. Here is one.

Are there some tutorials or guides showing the setup or earnings with the node?

Here is a video showing how to connect multiple nodes on the same network.

  1. Stupid question. I just received 2 etcmc plug & play nodes. Do I hook them together or each to a hdmi port on my monitor. Can’t find this answer anywhere. Probably just looking right over it! Thanks!

    • It’s a good question and many wonder about it. The ETCMC Nodes are simply computers with a program running. So when you need to start the program or claim your reward you need to have the mouse/keyboard and HDMI cable put in in order to
use the computer (just like a normal computer). However, when the node is running you can disconnect your keyboard, mouse, HDMI cable. So I just swap my HDMI cable around for each node I have when I want to see it on the monitor.
There are certain gadjets that allows you to connect multiple devices through their HDMI cables and you can thereby switch between monitor screens faster. However, it is definitely not needed & not something I use.
I have seen people with 20+ ETCMC nodes and for them it might be needed to save some time.
If you have more questions just keep it coming & I’m happy to answer them.
Wish you a great Friday /Nordic

  2. Hey,

I was looking into your dual mining video – why did you use fry miner as example, did you just utilise old one that you are not using ?

I have indoor set elite miner, can I buy BOYD license and mine geo + fry (indoor) + fry with tokens with BOYD ?

So kinda triple mine from two devices or is it better to buy a mini computer + geo net ?

    • There is the possibility mine dual or even tripple mine with some devices. The ETCMC nodes (that are mini computers) we are able to get a FRY BYOD licence for (the satellite) and thus dual mine.
We also have the ability to connect fry BYOD satellite miner to the GEODNET miner as well. But we can not attach a FRY BYOD licence to a device that is already mining fry.
